Congress should not allow any administration to take our nation to war without the consent of the people. I fear that we are about to embark on an undeclared, unconstitutional war in Iraq that is exceedingly unwise and fraught with unforeseen consequences. This war will have nothing to do with US national security or Iraqi aggression. It will, however, make us all less secure by antagonizing millions of Muslims who understand the necessity of our actions against Al-Queda, but who will object to an invasion of Iraq.
Well, if the goal of the Neocons had been realized and we got control of Iraqi oli which was part of the agenda of The Project for the New american Century (PNAC) then it would have been debateable as to whether it WAS a dumb war.
Whatever else they might be Cheney, Rumsfeld et al were not dumb. If they had pulled it off, the USA would have gained just as they had gained from other imperialsm like : The Indian Wars, The Mexican War and The Spanish-American War.
I have wondered if all those Senators like Hillary and Edwards who voted for the war had larceny in their souls and voted for the war because we had a credible pretext for plundering Iraqi oil.
voting to not fund the war would have forced consideratins for removing the troops much earlier on. 5 years into this thing with no clear indication of what’s going to happen is not acceptable in my opinion. we need complete withdrawal as soon as possible. those are the words one should be using.
if it takes a year or two, then by all means, start now. not later!!
