This sounds like a parody of the ’silly season’, but is real.  Abe Greenwald is actually disturbed by Obama’s preference of orange juice over coffee.
The switch from juice to coffee is a rite of adulthood. It’s not that Obama seemed to hold himself above the coffee drinkers. It’s that he seemed to lag behind them. He’s still on fruit juice while [...]

One of the rare economic issues in which I support Obama’s stance. A gas tax-holiday, at this stage, is little more than a populist gimmick. It is bad fiscal policy, bad energy policy, bad environmental policy and – as previous experience shows — will do little to provide consumer relief.

A subtle, highly readable article by Virginia Postrel on Barack Obama. Obama she says, has brought glamour — that special combination of mystery and grace — back into American politics. Indeed, Obama’s exceptional combination of charisma, intelligence and vagueness makes people want to project their own ideology onto him.
Plenty of candidates attract supporters who disagree with them [...]

Obama steps up the populist rhetoric.
“We’re ready to play offense for organized labor,” Obama said. “It’s time we had a President who didn’t choke saying the word ‘union.’ A President who knows it’s the Department of Labor and not the Department of Management.”
I sincerely hope this is just rhetoric.

Barack Obama says that his economic plan is better than his bowling.
Now, I have my misgivings about Obama’s tax-and-spend economic plan. I also don’t like some of his protectionist and regulationist rhetoric. But after this performance, I cannot argue with the truth of his statement.

Alas, I cannot give a more considered response right now as I have to get on the road. But I do want to say that this searing, nuanced, gut-wrenching, loyal, and deeply, deeply Christian speech is the most honest speech on race in America in my adult lifetime. It is a speech we have all [...]

My impressions? It was powerful, nuanced, insightful and moving. I wrote yesterday that this speech would be Obama’s sternest test as a politician and an orator. I believe he lived up to it.
For those who missed it, here’s the transcript, though the emotional impact, I suppose, is somewhat muted when one merely reads it.
Update: And here’s the [...]

There is little doubt that the Wright controversy is the biggest crisis that the Obama campaign has faced so far. Some commentators have hastened to declare that it is, in fact, over for Obama. There is virtually no chance of him winning the general election anymore, they claim, even if he somehow manages to cling on to the [...]

“I don’t oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war.”
-Barack Obama, 2002, opposing the impending war in Iraq.
Update: Read the full text of this extraordinary speech here.

The Washington Post has a fine article about Samantha Power, the top Obama aide who was forced to resign after a Scot newspaper published her ‘off-the-record’ remark that Hillary Clinton was being like a ‘monster’ in how she was stopping to anything to win.
How does a Harvard professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author manage to blow up [...]

Unreal and hilarious. What was she thinking?

The New York times opines that if Barack Obama is elected, it will mark the first time that the president of the United States is a civil libertarian. Hmm…I’m not so sure.
Don’t get me wrong. There is no doubt that Obama stands closer to the ideal of individual freedom than either Clinton or McCain. But that’s [...]

Really, this Hillary ad is so bad, it makes you wonder if it was an Obama plant!

The war of gaffes gets more ridiculous each day. After the frankly irrelevant controversy over Obama using borrowed words in a speech, it is now Cindy McCain’s turn to make a not so subtle point about her patriotism vis-a-vis Michelle Obama’s.
For those who missed it, here is the article.
My first reaction to such news is that there are [...]
