Whatever else they might be Cheney, Rumsfeld et al were not dumb. If they had pulled it off, the USA would have gained just as they had gained from other imperialsm like : The Indian Wars, The Mexican War and The Spanish-American War. I have wondered if all those Senators like Hillary and Edwards who voted for the war had larceny in their souls and voted for the war because we had a credible pretext for plundering Iraqi oil.
